How does Santa know which children have been naughty or nice all
year and truly deserve the presents on their Christmas lists? From
Summer holidays to Halloween and everything in between, Santa's
Secret Agents, under the command of Jolly Saint Nick (a.k.a. Double
Ho 7) and Mrs Claus are always watching but where are they hiding?
This new children's picture book from debut authors Chris Wheeler
and Steve Gunning, who also created the inventive and beautifully
drawn illustrations, has all the makings of a cult-classic and will
appeal to kids with inquisitive minds who wish to find out more
about Santa, Mrs Claus and their team of covert secret agents. Each
page of witty rhyme and wonderfully detailed pictures means readers
will want to revisit it again and again. A wonderfully engaging
book that will encourage reading from an early age, the book
appeals to children aged 6 and upwards and in particular 7-8 year
olds and invites children to discover the magic and mystery of
Christmas and the secret world of Santa and his crack(er) team of
elves who can be found everywhere and are watching your every move.
Santa's Secret Agents makes an ideal Christmas gift for all those
who believe in Santa and can also be read throughout the year as
the story follows children at home, in the garden, on the beach,
during Halloween and at school. The book will also be hugely
popular with adults too with its humour and tongue-in-cheek spy
references, as Santa sits down to 'a glass of milk shaken, not
stirred'.

If you can play just a few notes on the flute, then you're ready
for the Really Easy Flute Book. Here are 21 imaginative little
pieces for the absolute beginner - traditional tunes, classics and
specially composed melodies, all with attractive piano
accompaniments. The pieces are arranged progressively, so you can
hear the step-by-step improvement in your playing as well as simply

This key collection brings together a selection of papers
commissioned and published by the Cardiff Centre for Ethics, Law
& Society. It incorporates contributions from a group of
international experts along with a selection of short opinion
pieces written in response to specific ethical issues. The
collection addresses issues arising in biomedical and medical
ethics ranging from assisted reproductive technologies to the role
of clinical ethics committees. It examines broader societal issues
with particular emphasis on sustainability and the environment and
also focuses on issues of human rights in current global contexts.
The contributors collect responses to issues arising from high
profile cases such as the legitimacy of war in Iraq to
physician-related suicide. The volume will provide a valuable
resource for practitioners and academics with an interest in ethics
across a range of disciplines.
he's got a smile that it seems to me Reminds me of childhood
memories... Iconic band Guns N' Roses gives new meaning to the
beloved lyrics from Sweet Child O' Mine in this vivid, heartfelt
picture book. Follow a child's wondrous discovery that music is
everywhere around us--from the gentle wind blowing through the
bluest skies, to the fearful crash of the thunder and the rain.
With Jennifer Zivoin's evocative, sweeping paintings, Sweet Child
O' Mine celebrates love and music, and how they bring us together
in the sweetest ways.
Globalization provokes both excitement and fear. This comprehensive
collection, which brings together some of the most important
published work on the subject, addresses a core issue of
contention: the implications of globalization for poverty and
inequality. While the debate is highly politicized, this insightful
set of papers focuses on the contributions made by academic
economists. Globalization may be regarded by some as the
realization of new opportunities through the removal of barriers to
the flows of goods, services, factors and knowledge. However, it
may also have adverse consequences: notably for farmers and
unskilled workers in rich countries and for workers in protected
industries in poor countries. In addition, this important
collection investigates the implications of globalization for the
power of international corporations and for the sovereignty of poor
countries. It also explores topics such as the history of
globalization, migration, capital movements and international
institutions.
The industrialisation and modernisation in South Korea that
followed the Second World War resulted in rapid progress in
economic development, public administration, social service
provision and the establishment of modern public policy. Bringing
together outstanding researchers, this book is the first to examine
the theory and practice of policy analysis in South Korea. The
volume explores the historical development of policy analysis, and
procedures for decision making at different levels of government.
Drawing on case studies, contributors consider the issues and
players that affect executive and legislative branch policy
analysis, as well as policy design and analysis in the public arena
and the shifting role of policy and research institutes, think
tanks and post-secondary institutions.
This revised edition of Adam Wall's 1798 guide to the formal
ceremonies of the University of Cambridge - written by Henry
Gunning (1764-1854), at the time Senior Esquire Bedell, and
published in 1828 - was intended to help 'that very numerous Class,
who are desirous of proceeding to their degrees, but are utterly at
a loss what steps to take for that purpose'. It goes through the
academic year, from Michaelmas Day to the 'Public Commencement' in
July, explains the procedure for electing or appointing the
university officers, from the Member of Parliament to the
'School-keeper and Bell-ringer', and lists the various fees
(including Stamp Duty) payable by the students before proceeding to
their degrees. Gunning expressed 'sincere acknowledgements to the
Syndics of the Press for their liberality in defraying the expenses
of this publication', testifying to close co-operation between the
Press and the University on this fascinating project.
Originally published in 1928, Studies in Hereditary Ability studies
the genealogy of great families of Britain and America and examines
how their ancestors influenced their genetics and who they
subsequently ended up becoming. The book examines the descent of
ability through both maternal and paternal lines, and seeks to
argue that from both sides, there stems an equal chance of
inheritance. At the time of publication maternal genealogy was
relatively unexplored and the book examines the influence of the
maternal line on hereditary genetics, as well as the early
influence of the mother on a child's environment. The book also
examines the links between leadership and intelligence, and maps
the genealogy of writers, scientists and artists, and proposes that
these notable figures were more likely to have had notable
relatives. Although very much of its time, the book will provide a
unique and interesting read for social historians, anthropologists
and genealogists alike.

Damani is tired. Every day she cares for her mum, drives ride
shares to pay the bills and is angry at a world that promised her
more before spitting her out. The city is alive with protests,
fighting for people like her, but Damani can barely afford -
literally - to pay attention. That is until the summer she meets
Jolene and life opens up. Jolene seems like she could be the
perfect girlfriend - attentive, attractive, an ally - and their
chemistry is undeniable. Jolene's done the reading, she goes to
every protest, she has all the right answers. So maybe Damani can
look past the one thing that's holding her back: Jolene is rich.
And not only rich, but white, too. But just as their romance
intensifies, just as Damani learns to trust, Jolene does something
unforgivable, setting off a truly explosive chain of events.
Brimming with heart, humour, and rage, Your Driver Is Waiting is a

a fearless new voice.
The book tells the story of how the British consular service in the
Aegean, in the years of the British protectorate of the Ionian
Islands (1815-1864) became an agency for the retrieval, excavation
and collection of antiquities eventually destined for the British
Museum. Exploring the historical, political and diplomatic
circumstances that allowed the consular service to develop from a
chartered company into a state run institution under the direction
of the Foreign Office, it provides a unique perspective on the
intersection of state policy, private ambition, and the collecting
of antiquities. Drawing extensively on consular correspondence, the
study sets out several challenges to current views. For those
interested in the history of travel in the Levant, or more
generally in the Grand Tour, the book presents an alternative point
of view that challenges the travellers' descriptions of the region.
The book also intersects with British diplomatic history, providing
an insight into the consuls in both their official and private
circumstances, and comparing their situation under the Levant
Company with that of the Foreign Office run consular service. The
complex political situation in the Aegean at the time of the take
over of the service is examined along with the political and
commercial roles of the consuls, their daily dealings with the
Greeks and Ionians, and also with the Ottoman authorities. Through
private correspondence, it shows how the consuls' reflected the
belief that Greek, Egyptian, Babylonian, Roman and other
antiquities would be better looked after in a British, French,
German or American museum, than by the people, and in the
countries, they were created for. In particular, the book
illuminates the public/private nature of the consuls' role, the way
they worked with, but independently of, government, and it reveals
how Britain was able to acquire major pieces of sculpture from the
nineteenth century Aegean.

Brought to New England and bound into servitude to pay her
father's debts, Alice Cole, at fifteen, can barely remember the
time when she was not a servant to John Morton. His daughter,
Nabby--only three years older than Alice--begins as Alice's
childhood companion, but when Nabby weds, she becomes Alice's
mistress. But the marriage is not what it appears, and Alice,
endangered by its storm, defies her new master and the law, and
escapes to Boston. Impulsively stowing away on a ship to Satucket
on Cape Cod, Alice believes that she has left her old life and her
secrets behind. Yet in a time of unrest and uncertainty, as
political and personal stakes rise and intertwine, she discovers
that freedom, friendship, trust, and love each have a price far
greater than she ever imagined.
Married for twenty years to Edward Berry, Lyddie is used to the
trials of being a whaler's wife in the Cape Cod village of
Satucket, Massachusetts--running their house herself during her
husband's long absences at sea, living with the daily uncertainty
that Edward will simply not return. And when her worst fear is
realized, she finds herself doubly cursed. She is overwhelmed by
grief, and her property and rights are now legally in the hands of
her nearest male relative: her daughter's overbearing husband, whom
Lyddie cannot abide. Lyddie decides to challenge both law and
custom for control of her destiny, but she soon discovers the price
of her bold "war" for personal freedom to be heartbreakingly
dear.
Includes the fascinating "story behind the story" of "The
Widow's War," a map of colonial Brewster, and a driving tour of the
village of Satucket.

This volume concerns the longstanding intellectual puzzle of how
individuals overcome their biological, neural, and mental finitude
to achieve sociality. It explores how humans take each other into
account, coordinate their actions, and are able to share their
inner states and to communicate. Sophisticated views on the bases
of sociality are detailed at the level of neural mechanisms,
perception and memory, motivation, communication and dialog,
culture, and evolution. These insights have been inspired by major
strides and exciting new developments in disciplines as far afield
as ethology, evolutionary ecology, neuroscience, cognition, memory,
developmental and social psychology, psycholinguistics, philosophy,
robotics, and sociology. The volume is the first to bridge these
disciplinary boundaries to lay the foundations for an integrated
and general conceptualization of the bases of sociality and its
implications for psychology. Each contribution presents different
levels of the grounding of sociality and will further stimulate
novel approaches to linking different layers of sociality, from the
neural to the cultural level.
In the development of next-generation nanoscale devices, higher
speed and lower power operation is the name of the game. Increasing
reliance on mobile computers, mobile phone, and other electronic
devices demands a greater degree of speed and power. As chemical
mechanical planarization (CMP) progressively becomes perceived less
as black art and more as a cutting-edge technology, it is emerging
as the technology for achieving higher performance devices.
Nanoparticle Engineering for Chemical-Mechanical Planarization
explains the physicochemical properties of nanoparticles according
to each step in the CMP process, including dielectric CMP, shallow
trend isolation CMP, metal CMP, poly isolation CMP, and noble metal
CMP. The authors provide a detailed guide to nanoparticle
engineering of novel CMP slurry for next-generation nanoscale
devices below the 60nm design rule. They present design techniques
using polymeric additives to improve CMP performance. The final
chapter focuses on novel CMP slurry for the application to memory
devices beyond 50nm technology. Most books published on CMP focus
on the polishing process, equipment, and cleaning. Even though some
of these books may touch on CMP slurries, the methods they cover
are confined to conventional slurries and none cover them with the
detail required for the development of next-generation devices.
With its coverage of fundamental concepts and novel technologies,
this book delivers expert insight into CMP for all current and
next-generation systems.
